Create a new report
Report Studio guides you through a step-by-step wizard to configure your report's format, layout, dashboard source, and name before opening the canvas.
Report Studio uses a step-by-step wizard to guide you through the initial setup of a new report. By the time you reach the canvas, your output format, layout, name, and dashboard source are already configured, and the canvas opens ready to use.
Creating a new report
To create a new report:
- Click New Report button
Select a report type
Choose the output format for your report. Only one format can be selected at a time.
The format you choose here determines the canvas configuration when you reach the canvas.
PDF and PPTX canvases open with format-specific defaults for page size, orientation, margins, and units.
XLSX opens with landscape orientation by default.
Select a layout
Select a layout to use as the basis for your report. Only one layout can be selected at a time.
Layouts are organized into 3 categories/options:
- Start from scratch (blank)
- This option is always available regardless of format.
- System generated templates:
- User-generated templates created by users in your environment

Select a dashboard
Scroll or use the search input to find and select the Sisense dashboard that will serve as the data source for your report. Click a dashboard to select it. Only one dashboard can be selected at a time.
As of Q2026.06.29, Reports can only be created from a single dashboard.
Users will only see the dashboards they have access to in Sisense. Any level of dashboard access (view or edit) makes a dashboard selectable here. No additional permissions are required.
Name the report
Provide a name for your report. Report names are limited to 64 characters, must be unique within the system, and will be validated inline.
Naming a report is optional. If skipped, the report name defaults to the name of the selected dashboard.
Review selections
Review the Type, Layout, and Dashboard selections. Users can navigate back to each step by clicking the row. Selections will persist at each step unless changed.
Create the report
Click the Create report button to navigate directly to the Report Canvas.
