Radial Line Chart

The Radial Line Graph (also known as a Polar Line Chart) plots one or more measures on a circular grid. Each category forms a point around the perimeter, and each measure is drawn as a filled line connecting those points, making it easy to compare multiple series across a shared set of categories at a glance.

Each measure is rendered as a separate series with its own color, circle bullet markers, and interactive tooltip. The chart supports multiple simultaneous series and automatically generates a legend to help viewers identify each one.

Installation and configuration

The Radial Line Chart plugin can be installed by an Admin, following the directions in Installing QBeeQ Plugins.

Operating system and version support:

  • Linux - Latest
  • Windows - Latest

When to Use It

  • Comparing several measures across the same set of categories
  • Showing relative strengths and gaps across dimensions (e.g. a skills matrix or a product comparison)
  • Visualizing data where the cyclic or symmetric nature of the layout adds meaning

Creating a Radial Line Chart

To create a new Radial Line Chart:

  1. Choose QBeeQ Radial Line Graph from the widget dropdown list
  1. Select the data for the Category and Values

Select Data

Use the data panel to select data to display on the chart.

⚠️

This plugin requires the selection of a category dimension and at least one value measure to be selected in order to render the initial chart. If the Category and/or Value panel is empty, the widget will show no data rather than an error.

  • Category - The dimension added to the panel defines the categories around the outer ring of the radar. Each unique value becomes one axis of the chart (a spoke).
    • For optimal readability, it is recommended to select a dimension with 5-15 distinct values.
  • Value - Each measure added to the panel is drawn as a separate radar series. Each measure becomes a separate series (line) on the radar.
    • Series are color-coded and listed in the legend. Custom colors can be assigned using the native Sisense custom color settings
    • There is no upper limit on the number of series. It is recommended to create charts with no more than 6-8 lines for optimal readability.

Using the Radial Line Chart

Legend

A legend is displayed automatically, mapping each series name to its color. The series name comes from the measure defined in the data panel.

Tooltips

Viewers can hover over each node to view a tooltip containing:

  • The series name (color-coded)
  • The point’s value

Values are formatted using the native Sisense formatting.

Radar Cursor

A radar cursor highlights the active axis as you move the pointer across the chart. The horizontal cursor line is hidden to keep the layout clean; only the radial axis indicator is shown.

Scrollbars

Both X and Y scrollbars are available for navigating large datasets with many categories or series.
